New in Kitsap: Telloz Bagels in Bremerton and Bongos Cafe in Poulsbo

Two new places worth driving north from Olalla Bay. Telloz Bagels is a weekend New York style bagel pop-up inside Evergreen Pizza in Bremerton, open Saturday and Sunday 7 a.m. to noon. Bongos Cafe is a Caribbean restaurant in Poulsbo, open Wednesday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Both opened in 2026.

Kitsap County keeps adding reasons to get in the car.

This is the first in a series on new businesses in Kitsap County. We start with two that opened in 2026 and are worth the drive from Olalla Bay: a bagel pop-up in Bremerton and a Caribbean restaurant in Poulsbo.

Telloz Bagels, Bremerton

Telloz Bagels launched in September 2026 inside Evergreen Squared, the slice shop at 1223 McKenzie Ave in Bremerton, on the Port Washington Narrows shoreline. The name combines the founders: Kyle Martello (the "Tell") and Sophie Holzer (the "oz"), a couple who got married in August 2026 and skipped a honeymoon to hone bagel recipes instead.

Martello, a native New Yorker who moved to Kitsap a decade ago, missed the bagels from home. Holzer spent a year kneading, boiling, and baking to get the texture right: a crisp exterior with a soft, chewy dough inside. The result is New York style bagels, made fresh each weekend morning.

There are six bagel varieties. Plain and everything are always available, plus a rotation of other varieties, sometimes including a pizza bagel. About 30 of each variety are made for Saturday and again for Sunday. They are served with schmears or spreads, or as breakfast sandwiches like sausage and cheese.

Telloz is open Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon. They have sold out the past two weekends, so go early. The bagels are made in the Evergreen kitchen, which also produces wood-fired pizzas, focaccia, and Sicilian-style slices. Evergreen Slice Shop serves Sicilian slices in the afternoon: Thursday and Friday 3 to 8 p.m., Saturday 1 to 8 p.m., Sunday 1 to 7:30 p.m.

Bongos Cafe, Poulsbo

Bongos Cafe opened its Poulsbo location in 2026 at 21303 Olhava Way NW. It is the second location for a Seattle restaurant that has been serving Caribbean food for 13 to 14 years. The Poulsbo spot brings the same menu and atmosphere north to Kitsap.

The food is Caribbean comfort: bold spices, fresh ingredients, generous portions. The menu includes the Havana Steak, Shrimp Po' Boy, Smoked Cuban Pork, Trini-Fried Chicken Plate, Yucatan Burger, and sandwiches like the Trini Po' Boy and the West Indies Sandwich. Sides include Maduros (fried sweet plantains), Yuca Fries, Yuca Cheese-Bites, and Hand Pies. For dessert, there is Hummingbird Cake, a moist spiced banana and pineapple layer cake from Jamaica, and a mango mini pie.

The Poulsbo location has indoor and outdoor seating. The owner hopes it becomes a neighborhood spot, and plans include a bar with Caribbean Tiki drinks and a deck with outdoor seating. The Seattle location is known for its sandpit seating; city regulations prevent recreating that in Poulsbo, but the beachy vibe carries over.
